News Media: Fact and Fiction
This is a unit I took during session 1, 2021. I had to submit a story pitch and a news video as the assessment of the unit.
The story pitch
This exhibition is held by Grande Experience - a company based in Melbourne. It takes place in Royal Home of Industries, Sydney from 12 March to 18 April. It brings to life artwork of 15 Impressionism French artists in the 19th century using multi-sensory technology on a mass scale. Visitors will be impressed with the immersive experience through light, sound, and fragrance that amplify the sophisticated details of Impressionism and resurrect the story of culture and history behind every painting.
News values and importance of the story.
The event is an ongoing exhibition based in the heart of Sydney - the city that embodies multiculturalism. It is of interest to Sydneysiders, especially young people, including Macquarie University students as it explores the art, culture, and historical aspects of Europe and France in particular. There are more than 2500 people interested in this event on Facebook. The number was still growing since the end of January when there was an announcement about launching the exhibition.
With the help of technology, this exhibition is nothing like any traditional galleries people have been to before. Following the success of Van Gogh Alive, with more than 250 thousand attendees (Broadway World, 2020), the event promises to bring another incredibly new experience of enjoying the arts, especially during this situation when everyone is going through a hard time finding joy, relaxation, and amusement.
News story structure.
The story will focus on the immersive experience in the exhibition and how technology was used to stimulate the visitors' senses. The report will mention people’s emotions and interaction with large multi-screen, digital scans of the paintings in 360- degree space, the classical music played in the background, the scents which create the atmosphere of the world in the artwork (The Daily Telegraph, 2021).
It is crucial to mention some characteristics of Impressionism, such as small, thin brush strokes, truthful visualization of light, different angles of ordinary people, or work in daily life (Impressionism, 2021). The story will examine European art and culture in a digital exhibition. Some opinions of French visitors can also be beneficial for the report since they already know European culture and lifestyle. They can be members of the French Society at Macquarie University.
